I have had a great life. I am now 82yrs old, married 57yrs and have lived the typical hard' wonderful American Dream. No one has had a better life than me. I am a lucky guy! I was born in 1940 as the youngest of 5 children, and we were living in the projects. (Government owned housing.) My mom lost her mother to TB when she was very young and my dad's family were sharecroppers. I remember the projects as a great place to live with wall to wall kids to play with. Where no one locked their doors at night. I just loved living in the projects. My dad took an electrical correspondence course advertised on the back of a match book cover. My mom said if dad did ok with his studies we would have to move. I guess if you had a job we're not allowed to live in the projects. So we then moved to a house in the hood. Our house was in the last block on a dead end street. There was a sawdust factory at the end of the street and a railroad switchyard was right out our back door. We just loved that house. That house was our family home until we all grew up and went out on our own. As a young man I was a fast learner. By the 9th grade I already knew more than the teachers. So I quit school and joined the Navy. A Navy ship was my home for the next 4 years. We sailed halfway around the world and back several times and visited several countries. This made me realize how lucky I was to have been born into I believe, the greatest country in the world. "GOD BLESS AMERICA". I was also lucky to have been gifted with such a great loving family, past and present. > They taught me, hard work is a virtue and nothing is free.> Watch over your family and treat your friends and neighbors like family. > Blame only that guy in your mirror for your problems and, >RESPECT is not a given it must be earned and be careful what you wish for. When our daughters were in high school we gifted each of them a new car right off the showroom floor! We were able to put each of our daughters through college with no student loans. We assisted each of our daughters 'who are now in their fifties' in building there own houses. Our houses are all shown below.
THIS IS HOW WE DID IT >>> Most people are dreamers, statics show only 3% are doer's "congratulations" you are obviously in the 3% category. This book is meant for men or women with no construction who wish to build their own home. We are living in our beautiful dream home on 6 acres, 'debt free'. We built this house 43/yrs ago. The only we could afford this style of living is by doing all the work ourselves I visited untold number of construction sites over the years. Taking photos and asking questions about each and every step in the building of a house. Beginning with the empty lot for the type and size of footers and how to square off the foundation for excavation. Those were workers who had learned their own way of doing things from actual years of on the job experience. I carried a note book and wrote everything down. So this guide is merely the instructions and advice as given to me from those experienced builders. This is unique because 'first and foremost' it is actually a step by step guide to 'good basic' building practices. Meaning' it can be adaptable for any size, type or design for any building, Garage, Room Addition or Entire House. As an example, here is a "recent photo" of a Play House that has stood the test of time. We built it 20/yrs ago using this step by step guide for my 7/yr old grand daughter who is now in her 30's.
